Pleasanton Goodguys Car Show - Saturday

Got up at 3.15am so we would get to Pleasanton by 6.00am when the gates opened. Met up with another couple of Rodders at a gas station just 10 minutes from home here, so followed them all the way. They were trailering a '57 Chev Nomad and were impressed with our old girl. Once inside the showgrounds, we set up camp with cooler (chilly bin), Goodguys blanket and deck chairs...just like the rest of them, and tried to appear as if we did this all the time! Gave the old girl a quick wipe down and settled in for the day.

It soon became apparent that the roadster's style of car was a novelty there, as most of the American Rodders had gone with either an old rat rod type of look, or had jumped straight into the new high tech modern look. The classic Hollywood 'Clark Gable' type era that Colin had in mind when he built the '36, seemed to have been completely overlooked. Needless to say, there was a lot of interest, and we were overwhelmed with positive comments and compliments.

The day passed quickly and we were both getting a little weary from answering all the questions about the car. I had prepared some flyers with facts and photos hoping to attract interested parties to the auction in August, and they soon got snaffled up. By mid afternoon we had two seperate offers on the car, as well as a firm bidder for the auction. There was also a Monteray car dealer who told us if it by any chance the car didn't sell at auction, he would buy it at an attractive price. Things were looking up.

By the time the show closed at 5.00pm we were well ready for our Motel. We'd booked in at the Radisson Hotel which offered a discount for all show entrants. Never being ones to let a chance like that go begging, we were in like robbers dogs!

After a long shower and cool drink, we piled into bed and ordered room service dinner. The hotel, the bed, the shower and the food were all perfect and we revelled in our extravagance and luxurious surroundings.
